The French Department was established in 1966 with a class of fifty girls following a Five-year cycle, a general education program in five years (High School program + 2 years of Bachelor). From August 1980, the department initiated mixed education and opened two classes, and the number of students increased to 250 students. In addition to this five-year program, Two-year College program (Last two years of license 2, after a 5 years program) was opened in 2001, but closed in 2021. The University education program in an evening four-year cycle (Bachelor in 4 years) was proposed in 2001 attended by almost a two hundred students. In 2004, the French department opened a new class of fifty students for the day four-year program, delivering the intensive French instruction to two classes for each level, receiving High school students or High school students in vocational program. With its three distinct formations, the French Department currently records approximately a total of 679 Students and is the Taiwan's largest French Department.
